NFC killswitch

Switches NFC off the moment you leave a place you've marked safe. With NFC down, tap-to-pay stops working — so if your phone is lifted from a pocket or left in a taxi, nobody can walk it up to a card reader. Turn it back on in one tap when you actually want to pay.

Build it yourself

Free. Two routines, about three minutes. Settings › Modes and Routines › Routines tab › +.

1. The killswitch

  1. If › Place › pick your safe place (Home, or the office) and set it to trigger when you leave. Location permission has to be on for Place conditions to work.
  2. Then › Connections › NFC › Off.
  3. Name it NFC killswitch, tap Save.

2. The one-tap re-enable

  1. If › Manual › Start manually.
  2. Then › Connections › NFC › On.
  3. Name it NFC on, save, then add it to your Home screen: long-press an empty spot › Widgets › Modes and Routines.
Worth knowing. Turning NFC off disables all tap-to-pay — Google Pay and Samsung Wallet both — and any other NFC use like transit cards or tag scanning. That is the point, but it does mean you tap the widget before paying. It is not a replacement for a screen lock, Find My Mobile, or your bank's card controls; it is one more layer.
